I needed a 12v power supply so I dug out an old AC adapter that can push out up to 3 amp at 12 volt.
It was making a pretty loud high pitched squeal and I assumed it was about to blow. I moved it somewhere safe and watched from a distance. After a couple of minutes it went bang.
I then cut the lead off thinking I’ll keep the wires and throw away the main adapter. But then I wondered what would have happened if I’d have kept it going.
So I setup my camera and plugged it back into the wall. In hindsight it would have made more sense to plug it into an extension cable that I could turn on and off remotely. But I assumed the worst thing that would happen would most likely be blown capacitors and not a larger more dangerous explosion.
